“Mixed Nuts” was drawn in 1982, when I was still experimenting with ideas for a daily newspaper comic strip. I had scoured the libraries for information on submitting comic strip ideas to national syndicates, and what were their requirements. The setting on a lunatic asylum offered ample opportunity for me to exercise my off-beat sense of humor. The most notable character was the “straight man” Harvey, whose character design was adapted for a variety of cartoon strips throughout my career.
